Development Fund

“Love is not just looking at each other, it’s looking in the same direction.”
– Antoine de St-Exupery

The Fonds de développement de l’École Rudolf Steiner de Montréal (FDERSM) was created in 1996 to support the school in its growth, stability and development. It is a non-profit organization and today the focus of the Foundation is to provide for:

accessibility for lower-income families via financial aid
continuing education for our teachers
the on-going transformation of the building
In recognition of these goals, Parents, Alumni and Friends of the school offer annual financial support to make them a reality.

From its inception in 1978, the ERSM had rented space from different school boards. However, these spaces were continually reclaimed for the boards’ own needs and required multiple moves which were taxing on our community.

In 2005, a group was designated “to provide stability and the possibility of growth for the École Rudolf Steiner de Montréal by finding a permanent home that meets the defined criteria while respecting the financial capacity of the school.”

In 2007, the Fraser-Hickson Institute announced its intention to sell the building that it had occupied since its construction in 1958. The building combined many favourable elements for establishing a Waldorf school – space, light, gardens. RSF Social Finance offered the school financing and on September 27th, the purchase contract was signed.

Since moving in to this space, our families, staff and friends have donated their time and energy to optimize it for our teachers and students. We have undertaken many repairs and have added among others:

new classrooms
an independent daycare space
a computer room for staff
a science laboratory
a vegetable garden
a fence, etc.
We would like to express our sincere thanks to the following organizations for having helped make our dreams a reality:

The Fraser-Hickson Institute

RSF Social Finance (Rudolf Steiner Foundation)

We are also deeply grateful to our donors, lenders and volunteers. Parents, former parents and friends generously offered their valuable time, energy and money to find a permanent home for the ERSM. Without your support and your dedication, this project would not have been possible.

Thank you!
